Historic Hilo Restaurant Since 1946
Cafe 100 is a historic Hilo restaurant known for legendary local comfort food and the famous Loco Moco. A quarter-pound hamburger patty over two scoops of rice, brown gravy and topped with an egg, the classic dish now comes in 30+ varieties. Since 1946, locals and visitors alike have come for generous portions, home-style cooking, and genuine island flavor.
A big MAHALO to the over 50 people representing the 100th Battalion veterans group, Rotary Clubs and friends for being a part of the new displays. The two storyboards were created by LTC Stephen Dyer (Ret) and COL Chris Moylan (Ret) both of Honolulu. The banner is courtesy of Gregg Miyashiro and Aaron Miyasato.
The Story Behind the Name
At Cafe 100, the number is not a gimmick. It is a salute.
Founder Richard Miyashiro named the restaurant in honor of his service with the 100th Infantry Battalion during World War II. Made up of Japanese American soldiers from Hawaiʻi, the battalion became one of the most highly decorated units in U.S. military history, known as the “Purple Heart Battalion” for their extraordinary courage and sacrifice.
What began as a humble postwar eatery carried forward the spirit of resilience, community, and pride. Every plate served here is part of that living legacy.
